Thor's head is roughed out...
|
Thor's head profile... not sure about the nose

|

I next sculpted the helmet
|
I determined where the helmet would line up on his head; then temporarily removed that portion.

Here is Thor with his helmet attached. Here he looks too serious and lacks action.
|
After searching the web, I came across this 2D image of Thor in action, I thought the expression would be perfect for the Thor Sculpture. Therefore, I altered his mouth. Open mouth sculptures are more complex than the closed mouth pieces. Especially when it comes time to fabricate the mold.

This is how I built the armature for Thor's winged helmet. The material is aluminum siding that is purchased at your local building supply store. |
Here you can see the cut out for the wings that are attached to the helmet. I just realized I did not take images of how I applied the clay to the aluminum armature cut outs. sorry.... |

Here is the semi completed wing. It is not attached yet. I will attach it after I am happy with Thor's facial expression. |
This is the body I will use for the Thor sculpture. The body was inspired by an image of Dennis Newman (body builder). The previous page has the image of the black and white I used. I believe the image came from one of the following bodybuilding magazines... Flex Magazine, Fitness magazine or Iron Man magazine in the early 90's. |

My goal here will be to emulate some of the ideas used in previous concepts. If any viewer has a suggestion, please drop me an email handsofcaesar@gmail.com before I complete the sculpture.
